John Croner, MA, MSW, LCSW

John has been working and studying in the fields of case management, advocacy, social work
and psychotherapy since 2005, working with a variety of diverse groups, including teens, adults,
seniors and underserved communities. Having moved to the Fredericksburg area in 2014, John
originally began his case management, social work and psychotherapy careers while living in
New York City and Brooklyn, NY, obtaining an MA in Political Science and Urban Policy from
Brooklyn College and later an MSW from New York University. While at NYU, John conducted
his final internship at the National Institute for the Psychotherapies conducting weekly and biweekly talk session psychotherapy with adults from a wide variety of diverse backgrounds.

Since moving to Fredericksburg, John has been working primarily as a medical social worker in
hospice and palliative care and completed his clinical licensure hours under the supervision of
CFC’s practice group member Beatrice Kerr, LCSW. John is excited to begin part-time private practice psychotherapy here in Fredericksburg and considers his approach to talk therapy to be one of trusting empathetic alliance building, using a mix of cognitive behavior therapy, person-centered talk therapy, internal-family systems/parts work, narrative work and harm reduction approaches.

He has a special interest in work towards anger management, conflict mediation, anxiety amelioration and internal life exploration/review. He looks forward to getting to know all those who come through his door and hopefully be of help in defining and reaching their goals, beginning to walk along the paths toward growth and healing.
